Bryan B Murchison

Bryan Bissell Murchison of Venice, Florida, formerly of Huntington, NY, passed away July 24, 2022, at Luke Haven Health Center in Venice, Florida.  He was 95 years old.


Bryan was born on August 23, 1926, in Orlando, Florida, the son of John Colin and Elizabeth Bissell Murchison. He married Julia Manning on August 6, 1955, in Frankfurt, Indiana. They moved to Long Island and eventually settled in Huntington, New York to raise their six children.


Bryan served as an Ensign in the US Navy from 1944 – 1946. He went on to study Industrial Management at Purdue University where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity; he graduated in 1950. After college, Bryan served in the US Naval Reserves where he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in 1952.


Bryan was hired by Kearney & Trecker, a machine tool company, in 1951 and worked his entire 41-year career with them as a Sales Engineer and later as the East Coast Manager of Sales. After retiring in 1991, he and his wife, Judy, moved to Venice, Florida where they enjoyed the remainder of their years.


Ever the southern gentleman, Granddaddy”, as known to all his grandchildren, loved his family dearly and was most proud of the Murchison name. He was a life-long sports enthusiast playing football and basketball in his younger years and golf and tennis long into his retirement.  His outlook on life can best be described by the words of his favorite song, “Accentuate the Positive.


Preceded in death by his wife, Julia Murchison, and son-in-law, Michael Applequist, Bryan is survived by his six children and their families: Ann Lukralle (Charles) of Centerport, NY, Caroline Applequist of Bedford, TX, Cameron Murchison of St. Petersburg, FL, Ellen Becker (Robert) of Maple Grove, MN, Charles Murchison (Karen) of Huntington, NY and Leslie Baxter (Scott) of Bedford, TX. Bryan’s legacy and love live on through his 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
