Obituary of Richard Allen Schultz

Richard Allen Schultz, 82, of Venice, Florida, passed away on Monday, September 27th, 2021 in Sarasota, Florida after a long illness.  Richard was born May 1, 1939 in Watertown, South Dakota to Darwin Schultz and Ruth Keelin Schultz Munger.  His family moved to Monterey, California in 1942.  Richard attended Salinas High School and joined the U.S. Army immediately upon graduation in 1957.  After his military service, he returned to Salinas and began his career in the automotive parts business, which continued until his retirement in 2004.  His love for cars was deepened as an active member of the Monterey County Corvette Club for many years.  Among his friends and family, Richard was affectionately nicknamed Fred Flintstone due to his uncanny resemblance to the classic cartoon character.  As an avid dog lover, he gave a home to many four-legged best friends throughout his life and was always the first person to step up to help others.

Richard is survived by his wife, Rebecca Schultz; daughter Mika Schultz Whaley (George), Salinas, CA; son Judson Schultz (Cathy), Salinas, CA; stepson James Fey (Shannon) Spring Hill, TN; stepdaughters Kirsten Andresen (Jeff), Bothell, WA and Melissa Hill (Kevin) Venice, FL; grandchildren Summer Schultz Elam (Jerad), Mikal Whaley, Kinsey Hill, Jordan Fey, Bryson Bell, Brody Hill, Nolan Fey, Iris Bell, and Brent Hill; and two great-grandsons Stetson and Laramie Elam.  He is also survived by his brother Roger Schultz (Karen), Rohnert Park, CA.

A celebration of life will be held at the family residence in Venice, Florida on November 20, 2021.  In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or a local animal shelter.
